May is the start of our fishing season in the Connecticut Lakes Region. Ice usually leaves the big lakes during the first week of May. Pond fishing opens the last Saturday of April. Moose Pond and Middle Pond are usually iced out by then, sometimes Back Lake. The spring run of salmon begins shortly after ice out on the big lakes and the best places to fish for them are in the inlets at Lake Francis and First Lake.

By mid to late May the trout fishing picks up in the river and ponds as the water warms. Good fishing is had on Memorial Day weekend. June is a popular month for fishing. We see the caddis and mayfly hatches all month. We also see a 2 week window of black flies mid month. July and August offer excellent fishing since the river water comes from dep in the lakes water column keeping temps low to support great trout fishing all season long.

September and October are also great months for fishing. Water cools as the days get shorter and daytime temps get cooler. Pond and lake fishing pick up. River fishing continues to be good until the close of the season October 15.
